Open Question: Would WA state be better than Florida for single parent?

I have an opportunity to move across the US to Seattle, WA - In general, for a single parent would this be a step in a positive direction - financially and over all quality of life? I've been to Portland, OR and loved it. As in the mountains, food options (seem to be healthier lifestyle), and weather was great but I hear it mostly cold and rainy - here in FL its mostly hot and humid. Any advice appreciated....
